Kitakyushu Area Info
Five cities combined to form the current day Kitakyushu. The core area is known
as Kokura. This area contains the main transportation terminal (JR Kokura Station)
and the Kitakyushu International Conference Center (a five-minute walk from Kokura
Station).
Located midway between Tokyo and Shanghai, Kitakyushu has thrived as a gateway
for trade with Asia since ancient times. Today, Kitakyushu's population of one
million continues to reap the benefits of proximity to the Asian continent, and
the city has become one of Japan's largest centers for international trade and
industry.

Mojiko Retro
The current number one tourist attraction at the north end of Kitakyushu with
numerous restored builidings in art deco and renaissance atyle of the early 20th
century. The area around the port and station has several historic buildings including
Mojiko Station itself. There are also quite a few nice places to enjoy a good
meal. 15 min. from Kokura Station by train (270 JPY).

Kokura Castle
Kokura Castle sits on a hillock overlooking the Murasaki River and the central
Kokura district. Originally built in 1602 by Hosokawa Tadaoki, today`s castle,
built in 1959, includes a model of the old town along with many other exhibitions.
A short 15 min. walk from the Kokura Station area, the castle is open to the public
from 9am to 6pm with a 350 yen entrance fee for adults.
