4-2-1 Introduction of Designated IP Address Administrator System

On introducing the new system that was approved at the 11th General Meeting, it was decided that from April 1, 2001, IP address operations will be performed by designated IP address administrators.

As a result, non-JPNIC members can now perform IP address operations, if they make a contract with JPNIC as a designated IP address administrator. However, the application procedures for IP address registration will remain the same as with the current JPNIC member system.

The changes are outlined below.

  • Reduction of IPv4 address assignment fee
  • Creation of "Designated IP Address Administrator Contract" and "Rules for IP Address Assignment and Others"
• Operational Changes
  • No changes in application procedures for IP address registration

4-2-2 Requirements for the Designated IP Address Administrator

Requirements for the Designated IP Address Administrator are as follows. a) was changed from those for the existing JPNIC member system.

1. Must consent to the Designated IP Address Administrator Contract and related documents
2. Must be able to perform clerical and technical operations as defined by JPNIC for the designated IP address administrator

4-2-3 Designated IP Address Administrator Contract

The contract includes definitions of the duties and rights of JPNIC and the administrator, as well as the duty of confidentiality regarding the contents of applications.

We began to accept contract applications on March 1, 2001 for those who are JPNIC members as of March 31, 2001, and on April 1, 2001 for others.

Any JPNIC members who did not conclude the contract during the transitional period cannot be regarded as a designated IP address administrator. We recommend that they should proceed as soon as possible.
