December 27, 1999 Japan Network Information Center Announcement of IPv6 sub-TLA application agent service As of August 1999, the Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) has begun allocating Ipv6 addresses (sub-TLAs) for the Asian-Pacific region. However according to Regional Internet Registry (RIR) policy, the only applications accepted are those submitted directly to the RIR, and for this reason applicants in the Asian-Pacific region have been strongly recommended to become APNIC members in order to submit applications. To eliminate this difficulty, JPNIC has been holding discussions with APNIC in order to reach an agreement whereby JPNIC members would be able to be allocated sub-TLA addresses without having to first become members of APNIC. As a result of these talks, an agreement has been reached whereby APNIC has agreed to accept applications from JPNIC members submitted through JPNIC even if those submitting such applications are not members of APNIC. In accordance with this agreement, JPNIC is currently making preparations to begin accepting applications according to the following schedule. Early January: Publication of application documents January 20: Beginning of acceptance of applications Information on IPv6 and on applications procedures is available at the following URL. Note that new information on IPv6 will be added as it becomes available. http://www.nic.ad.jp/jp/regist/ipv6/index.html
