Service outage: Disk full caused lost ROA validity
Almost ROA had been becoming invalid because rpki-repository (JPNIC RPKI system publication server) experienced its disk full between Jan 26, 2022 and Feb 2, 2022. The status has been recovered currently. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please contact the following contacts.
Affected services
The BGP routes covered by ROA issued from the RPKI system had been detected as "Not found".
Date/Time of outage
From Jan 26, 2022 afternoon and Feb 2, 2022 22:30. UTC+9.
Cause
Due to grown access log made disk full on the rpki-repository, the program transferring objects (issued ROA etc) into the server could not executed correctly. The RPKI system could not update "nextUpdate" field in CRL nor Manifest. So related ROA could not be valid when clients downloaded them after the date in the field.
Responding to the cause
The outage was reported by a user having specialized knowledge in the community. After clearing the disk issue, ROA validity was recovered by transferring objects manually. In order to prevent recurrence, managing actions on rapidly growing files and keeping the service correctly will be taken by JPNIC.
