This document describes the flow of the IP address return application process. When addresses assigned to a user or member by a JPNIC member are no longer used, they should be returned to JPNIC. This document explains the procedure for returning IP address. Refer to the following document for details on filling in the IP Address Return Application Form: "IP Address Return Application Form" Please note that the name of each item in a form is described in Japanese and there is no request form in English. ※Contents※ 1. Return of assigned IP address 2. Request contact 3. Handling of request 4. Time limit till return 5. Qualifications for performing a return 6. Checking JPNIC database registration information 1. Return of assigned IP address IP address is a limited shared resource, so when they are returned, they should be used effectively in another way. Please cooperate for the effective usage of IP address, which is a shared resource on the Internet. The addresses covered by the return procedure explained in this document are IP address assigned by JPNIC, JNIC and the Network Address Adjusting Committee. When returning address assigned by the provider you connect to, please return it to the provider. If you return address due to a change in the provider you connect to and you connect with a new JPNIC member consigned to address assignment by JPNIC, please consult with the new JPNIC member first. Refer to the following Member List to find out whether the new JPNIC member is consigned to address assignment. "IP Address Assignment JPNIC Member List" 2. Request contact To return the assigned IP address, submit the IP Address Return Request Form by E-mail or post. We can not accept submissions by fax. E-mail is preferred. When making a request by post, it takes longer to input the information after the form reaches JPNIC, and so it will take a few more days to process compared with a request by E-mail. E-mail apply@ip.nic.ad.jp Post Japan Network Information Center Fuundo Bldg. 1F, 1-2 Kanda-Ogawamachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, 101-0052, Japan ※If sending by post, write "IP Address Return Application Form enclosed" on the envelope in red ink, enclose a stamped addressed envelope, and send it to the address given above. The stamped addressed envelope is used to send back the notice. 3. Handling of requests Once a request is accepted, the period till the date of return is regarded as the transit period/reservation period, and when the date of return is reached, information related to the returned address is deleted from the database of JPNIC and the assignment is cancelled. Note that if there are any omissions or unclear descriptions in the form, JPNIC can not accept the request. If a false description or request is discovered, JPNIC will regard the request as invalid. 4. Time limit till return After a request for return is accepted, the addresses to be returned are actually deleted from the JPNIC database at the end of the month in 3 months time, unless otherwise specified. If you wish a shorter return period than 3 months, fill in the date you wish the addresses to be returned in [Return date] on the Request Form. 5. Qualifications for performing a return A person who is registered in the JPNIC database as an administrative or technical contact for the addresses may make a request for the provider-independent addresses to be returned. It is also possible for the person who is registered in [DB registration] as being in charge of DB registration in the JPNIC member information to make a request in the place of the user. In the case of a request to return a provider aggregatable address, we can accept it only when it is sent from the E-mail address registered in [DB registration] of JPNIC member information, to which the address block is allocated. Only those people stated above can make the application for return. 6.
