ニュースレターNo.58/2014年11月発行 (JPNIC Newsletter No. 58/Issued on November 17, 2014)
From JPNIC
Dear Readers,
JPNIC issues triannual newsletters covering various topics concerning JPNIC activities and the Internet industry to deliver our news to JPNIC Members and other stakeholders in the industry.
"Special Article 1" of this issue 58 covers "Internet Week", an annual technical conference organized by JPNIC. The theme of Internet Week 2014 is "Rethinking 'our' Internet". The theme was selected to reflect the many "security" and "privacy" related incidents that occurred in the first half of this year, as well as active discussions in the Internet Governance arena especially since the later half of 2013. Through the event, we hope participants will gain an understanding of the current situation, as well as have discussions to identify issues and its possible solutions.
The topic of Internet Governance is covered in "Special Article 2" as well. Special Article 2 reports the latest discussions on the IANA stewardship transition, and Internet Governance Conference Japan (IGCJ), which is the platform for Internet Governance discussions organized by JPNIC.
"A Scene on the Internet History” discussed in this issue describes how Japan took the initiative in developing globally coordinated IPv6 policy from 2001 to 2002,which was the initial stage of the deployment of IPv6 network. Another regular section of the newsletter is "Introducing JPNIC Member". Issue 58 introduces a JPNIC member with an interesting approach and features an interview with BroadBand Tower, Inc., the first Internet data center provider to set up data centers in Japan. “Internet glossary in ten minutes” covers the world of SDN (Software-Defined Network) and NFV (Network Functions Virtualization), which are based on the concept ofevirtualization and dynamic configuration of networks by software technologies.
Other topics covered in the newsletter are Updates on IETF90, IGF 2014, and statistics published by JPNIC.
In late July, we reported the loss of JPNIC's Auditor, Mr. Shinichi Narita with deep sorrows. Mr. Narita made great contributions in stability of Internet Infrastructure and JPNIC, by serving as the first full-time Secretary General of JPNIC for nine years from August 2001 to February 2010, followed by his role as Trustee from June 2010 and as Auditor from June 2012. We express our sincere condolences.
