Did you know that two international Internet- related conferences will be held in Kyoto in the fall of 2023? "APNIC56" (https://conference.apnic.net/56/) will be held from September 7 to 14 and "Internet Governance Forum Kyoto 2023" (https://www.soumu.go.jp/igfkyoto2023/) will be from October 8 to 12. JPNIC is providing comprehensive support for both of them.
In “Prologue to the Internet: its Technologies and Services”, the robot "JP_29 II" and Dr. Hajime Koto Jr. of the Internet research institute explain the development of Wi-Fi. Wireless LAN, or Wi-Fi as it is commonly known, has become essential in our daily lives. Now, let's take a look at how Wi-Fi has become faster over the years.
In “Pick Out!”, we introduce featured articles from the JPNIC blog. This time, we feature an article providing an overview of the network analysis tool "NetOX" and how to use it, which has been translated into Japanese through collaboration between JPNIC and APNIC. NetOX is a tool designed to help operators efficiently survey their networks and identify and resolve routing problems. For the full text, visit https://blog.nic.ad.jp/2023/8770/ !!
“Introducing JPNIC Members” focuses on a particular JPNIC member engaged in interesting activities. This time, we visited Global Net Core Co.,Ltd., headquartered in Niigata City, Niigata Pref. They are one of the oldest companies in the Internet industry, and this year marks their 25th year in business. The company is a member of the BSN Media Holdings group, a comprehensive information media group in Niigata whose core company is The Broadcasting System of Niigata Inc. The company has strengths in both infrastructure services such as data centers and web solutions centered on web development, and skillfully combines these two strengths in their services. We learned about how they successfully combine their strengths to provide services to their customers through their packaged services. In this interview, we were deeply moved by their empathetic attitude of always being close to their customers without being overconfident, while developing services at the core of the Internet, a quality that is expressed in their company name.
“The Internet Loves You” is a corner in which we introduce a person who is active in the Internet industry. This time, we introduce Mr. Masataka Mawatari, who is engaged in Internet Exchange (IX) operations and global business development at Japan Internet Xing Co., Ltd. We were surprised to find out that he came into contact with the Internet much later than we expected—not until he entered the workforce—yet is now deeply involved with it. While he is soft-spoken, he is actively involved in community activities in the Asia-Pacific Internet community including APNIC. Here he talks about his motivation for his various activities on the Internet.
In our “10 Minute Internet Course”, we explore the keyword "DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance)". Mr. Masaki Kase, JPAAWG (Japan Anti-Abuse Working Group) Program Committee member and CTO of TwoFive, Inc., explains DMARC, a mechanism for checking email sending servers using DNS, such as SPF and DKIM. In recent years, email spoofing and phishing have been continuously occurring, and to counter these threats, authentication mechanisms have been developed and gradually popularized since 2000. DMARC is a well-known mechanism of this nature, and many companies and service providers have introduced it. This article provides a technical summary of DMARC, including related technologies and tips for introducing and operating it.
