It's that time of year again!! "Internet Week 2023" is about to start, and is the focus of Special Article 1. Internet Week is an event where people involved in the research and development, construction, operation, and services of Internet-related technologies gather to learn about, discuss, and facilitate more in-depth understanding and exchange of basic knowledge and the latest trends in Internet infrastructure and related technologies. This year's theme is "Gather around! Do Internetworking!" 2023 is a year of reunions and new encounters in real life post-COVID, so the program is organized around the concept of "Let's get together, listen, and talk". There is a lot of value to be created by knowing the overall trends of the Internet and networking with many different things. We look forward to welcoming many of you and improving together!!
The APNIC56 meeting to discuss IP address and AS number allocation policies and Internet-related technical trends in the Asia-Pacific region was held in Kyoto, Japan from Thursday, September 7 to Thursday, September 14, 2023. JPNIC helped organize the meeting as a local host. This was the first APNIC conference held in Japan since APRICOT 2015/APNIC39, held in Fukuoka, Japan from late February to early March 2015. APNIC marked its 30th anniversary at this year's conference with special events and activities. We cover APNIC56 in Special Article 2.
In “Prologue to the Internet: its Technologies and Services”, the robot "JP_29Ⅱ" and Dr. Hajime Koto Jr. of the Internet Research Institute explain the history of how Wi-Fi speeds got faster. Wireless LAN, best known as Wi-Fi, has become a necessity in our daily lives. Now, let's take a look at how Wi-Fi has become faster over the years. Continuing from the previous issue, this issue covers Wi-Fi from 802.11g onward.

“Introducing JPNIC Members” focuses on a particular JPNIC member engaged in interesting activities. This time, we visited Mitsubishi Electric Information Network Corporation, headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo. The company was founded in 1978 and has been providing Internet access services since 1995, making it one of the best-established companies in the industry, and its brand name, "MIND," is highly prestigious. They have supported the development of the Mitsubishi Electric Group in ICT (Information and Communication Technology), and thanks to their advanced technological capabilities, their systems and services are now being used by many corporate customers outside the Mitsubishi Electric Group. Recently, they have been strengthening their managed security services, and in October 2022, they established the "MIND Cyber Fusion Center", a one-stop facility that can assist customers with cyber incidents from identification to recovery. The facility is well equipped and highly impressive!!
“The Internet Loves You” is a corner in which we introduce a person who is active in the Internet industry. This time, we introduce Mr. Satoshi Matsumoto, who is engaged in a variety of work including human resource development, security education, and infrastructure facility construction at the Industrial Cyber Security Center of Excellence (COE) of the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA) and SoftEther Corporation. He was first exposed to computers in elementary school and spent his school years passionate about the field of computer networking. He talks about his passion for the Internet , including his experiences and work, his energetic activities in the Internet community, and his future goals.
