Dear Readers,

Internet Week 2024 is about to start at last. That's the focus of Special Article 1. Internet Week provides a comprehensive overview of the latest trends in the Internet, from basic content to the latest Internet technology trends, through technical tutorials, seminars on the latest trends, and hands-on seminars by speakers who are active on the front lines of the Internet. This year's theme is "Connect, Expand and Enjoy!". At Internet Week 2024, we hope to provide a place where many people involved in the Internet can gather, expand their connections, connect their fragmented knowledge and experience the joy of creating new value through those connections. This year, we believe it is important to broaden our perspectives and create crossovers, and that is what we aim to do. Let's use Internet Week as a platform to create new value by connecting technology and society, different fields and perspectives.

Major movements in the Internet governance community are taking place in 2024-2025. In late September 2024, the United Nations hosted the Summit of the Future, and world leaders adopted a Pact for the Future. This document includes the Global Digital Compact (GDC) on Internet Governance as an annex. We will cover these documents in Special Article 2.

In Prologue to the Internet: Its Technologies and Services, the robot JP_29Ⅱ and Dr. Hajime Koto Jr. from an Internet research institute explain the history of scripting languages. Take a look at how JavaScript, PHP, Ruby, Python, and Perl, which are widely used on the Internet today, have evolved over the years.

In Pick Out!, we introduce featured articles from the JPNIC blog. This time, we feature an article introducing the ICANN Technical Policy Document "OCTO-037 RBL Evaluation Methodology". This document examines how Reputation Block Lists (RBLs) should be evaluated and used to protect users and resources from Internet threats, and compares several RBLs. Introducing JPNIC Members focuses on a particular JPNIC member engaged in interesting activities. This time, we visited Ryobi Systems Co., Ltd., headquartered in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture. The company has a 59-year history since its establishment in June 1965, and is strong in the public and medical sectors. They have adopted a dual-headquarters system, with headquarters in Okayama and Tokyo, and serve a wide range of clients throughout Japan. We heard about their strengths, and at the same time, a variety of issues they face due to operating in both a major city like Tokyo and a regional area, such as difficulty in recruiting and human resource development, and what is needed in order to resolve these issues. Their office, which combines the latest trends with traditions such as Bizen ware produced in Okayama, is immensely attractive, and we were impressed by how happy and proud their employees are in their work.

The Internet Loves You is a corner in which we introduce a person who is active in the Internet industry. This time, we introduce Dr.Yuko Kamiya, who is a lecturer at Fukuoka Women's University. She started studying informatics by chance and now teaches it at a university. We were impressed by how she is also active in community activities, values human connections and makes students' growth her first priority.

In our 10 Minute Internet Course, "HTTP/3 and QUIC" are our keywords. Among HTTPs, which are protocols for exchanging data on the World Wide Web, Mr. Hiroyuki Goto of GREE Inc. explains in detail about HTTP/3 and QUIC, which have become standard protocols and are now widely used, from the background of their emergence to their features.
